Along the route

A train to the end of the line, then run home. For my marathon training long runs, I started taking Regional Rail trains to the end of the line to run back to Philadelphia. This is one of those runs: the train to Warminster, then 22.3 miles back to the Art Museum. When a long run starts closer to the city, I find it more tempting to head home early when the going gets tough. Doing it this way makes sure I keep running.

The route heads out of Warminster on Park Avenue and County Line Road, then follows Jacksonville Road into Hatboro and York Road and Easton Road through Willow Grove. Waverly Road, Harrison Avenue, and Cheltenham Avenue cross Abington and Cheltenham, and Willow Grove Avenue climbs through Wyndmoor. At mile 12.5, Valley Green Road drops into the Wissahickon, and the run turns to trail: Forbidden Drive along the creek, the Lincoln Drive Trail, across Falls Bridge, and down MLK Drive to the finish at the Art Museum.

My legs died around mile 16 thanks to the hills earlier in the run. Not very fun, but that is how long runs go sometimes.
